Possible mechanisms of bidirectional nuclear transport during neuronal migration

نویسندگان

چکیده

Neuronal migration is a fundamental process of mammalian brain development. In migrating neurons, the nuclear membrane protein Nesprin-2 has been shown to serve as an adaptor pull nucleus along microtubule tracks. Current evidence that binds both minus-end-directed motor dynein well plus-end-directed kinesin. However, translocation neuronal long thought be primarily driven by motors. Intriguing questions could raised about role kinesin in transport and how activities opposing motors are coordinated through interactions with Nesprin. Combining from recent studies, we propose serves switchboard mediating bidirectional movements.

Editorial: Mechanisms of Neuronal Migration during Corticogenesis

The mammalian neocortex shows an extremely well-organized structure that underlies higher brain functions such as cognition, language, and memory. The neocortex consists of a six-layered structure, in which excitatory and inhibitory neurons form complex neural circuits in concert with glial cells. As a result of recent technological innovations in live imaging and in utero electroporation, the ...

Neuronal migration re-purposes mechanisms of cytokinesis

www.landesbioscience.com Cell Cycle 3577 The capacity of cells to transition through the cell cycle is among the most complex and carefully orchestrated in biology, and yet also among the most fundamental. A cascade of cytoskeletal events occurs that involves the coordination of microtubules and actin filaments, under the regulation of signaling pathways that include a variety of proteins. Thes...

Nuclear factor I genes regulate neuronal migration.

Neuronal migration plays a central role in the formation of the brain, and deficits in this process can lead to aberrant brain function and subsequent disease. Neuronal migration is a complex process that involves the interaction of the neuron with the surrounding environmental milieu, and as such involves both cell-intrinsic and cell-extrinsic mechanisms. Studies performed in rodent models to ...

Cytoskeletal coordination during neuronal migration.

Discoveries from human and mouse genetics have identified cytoskeletal and signaling proteins that are essential for neuronal migration in the developing brain. To provide a meaningful context for these studies, we took an unbiased approach of correlative electron microscopy of neurons migrating through a three-dimensional matrix, and characterized the cytoskeletal events that occur as migratin...

Neuronal migration mechanisms in development and disease.

Neuronal migration is a fundamental process that determines the final allocation of neurons in the nervous system, establishing the basis for the subsequent wiring of neural circuitry. From cell polarization to target identification, neuronal migration integrates multiple cellular and molecular events that enable neuronal precursors to move across the brain to reach their final destination. In ...
